During my walk, I wandered down Comm Ave; looked up, and saw this statue carved out of an old tree trunk. Heartbreak Hill isn’t named so because it will break your heart. But, because it broke the heart of Johnny Kelly in 1936 after he gave Ellison “Tarzan” Brown a tap on the shoulder that was like, “Nice run, but I got this now.” The action fired Brown up. He overtook Kelly and won the race.
