Purgatory Chasm State Park

On the Fourth of July, we went hiking at Purgatory Chasm State Park. We just did the Chasm Loop Trail since we were hiking with a five-year-old and three-year-old. The trail was much rougher than I expected, but the kids did an amazing job scrambling over boulders and hopping into our arms.

The hike is beautiful, with a descent into the chasm. Giant rocks and stone pile up around you beneath a green canopy of trees rising from the ridges.

I’m still surprised by the crowds in the Northeast, even though I shouldn’t be. Yet, here I was, surprised by so many people and also uncomfortable as it became hard to keep a distance in the chasm amidst Covid-19.

Where do you love to hike in New England?
