Imaginative Play

This morning the 4yo set up her baby’s crib by the couch. Inside was a small stuffed elephant who was her baby, but would always stay that size even when she grew up.

The 4yo then positioned to paintings we’d done on paper plates on the couch above the crib. One was a sunset. The other was a face.

She said, “These pictures will remind the baby of us after we die and she can’t remember our faces and forgets our names.”

I asked, “Are you thinking of death? Or, are you just playing?”

“I’m just playing, Daddy,” she said, and she continued to decorate the baby elephant’s room.
