In the latest piece of woe, “As Interest Fades in the Humanities, Colleges Worry” this time from the NY Times, a stark image is cast. Fit for Halloween, the article depicts decreased student enrollment and cut budgets, slashing across English, Classics, Foreign Languages, etc. If students, politicians, and parents are enamored with STEM, what will happen to the humanities? To shift the conversation though, how is this division playing out on your campus? Do you perceive a change from administrators and students? If you teach in the humanities, how do you advise students who are considering a humanities major?
