I’ve read The Art of Subtext, by Charles Baxter and found it a smart, well-written book that examines fiction in a way that broadens a writer’s perspective. I sought the book out, because I loved his two previous books on writing: Burning Down the House and Bringing the Devil to His Knees. Recently, I’ve heard positive reviews of other books in the “Art of” series. Based on those recommendations and my knowledge of some of the writers, I’ve picked up The Art of Description, The Art of Syntax and The Art of Recklessness (which seems an appropriate title to read at the moment). I’m hoping to be inspired and provoked by thoughtful reflections regarding writing. Will post reviews later.
