When: Thursday, February 24 · 8:00pm – 10:00pm
Where: Duck Room, Blueberry Hill, 6504 Delmar Blvd., St. Louis
“Valentine’s Day Schmalentine’s Day – We’re celebrating our favorite length-challenged month with a MothUp of epic proportions! Join us February 24th in the Duck Room at Blueberry Hill for ‘Mortified’.
Stories of humility and humiliation. Awkward teenage missteps, early adulthood blunders, workplace faux pas, any first date having ever occurred… Let’s go beyond the OMG. Come relive your most mortifying moments with soon to be new friends now that we’re all old enough to drink legally and have the distance to recall our follies with rose colored glasses and a sense of humor.
And just for kicks this month, bring your high school (or worse… middle school!) yearbooks, love letters and diaries up on stage. Readings of selected excerpts between stories (or with stories) will be encouraged!
As usual, the urban story slam that is MothUp will begin at 8:00 PM, but we suggest arriving early to secure a drink and a good seat before things get rolling.
Everyone is more than welcome to take the stage and we especially love hearing from new voices. If you’d like to tell a story please let Stacey (Wehe) or Amanda (Boyce soon-to-be Clark) know ahead of time. You can contact us through Facebook or by emailing MothUpStL@gmail.com.
The only rules for those who take the stage are:
1. Stories must be true. No, we won’t be fact checking, but please avoid complete works of fiction.
2. While we’re still looking for a comically oversized timer and/or gong to ring, please try to be courteous and keep your story under 10 minutes.
3. No notes or cheat sheets are allowed. We encourage preparing story ahead of time, but while on stage it must be told from memory. Of course, don’t forget – for this month only selected excerpts from your earlier years will be allowed on stage.”
